Dorothy was brought up and lived in Melbourne until she moved to Nambucca Heads with her partner, Paul Searle, in 1997.
She and Paul became active members of the Nambucca community. As passionate bushwalkers, Dorothy and Paul, with the help of Jean Hicks, instigated a local bushwalking group which became the 'Kyeewa Bushwalkers'. The group is now in its 23rd year.
Dorothy became a member of the Nambucca Valley Arts Council participating as an artist, serving as treasurer, president and for many years, concert co-ordinator.
She was an accomplished spinner and weaver, exhibiting a wide range of her works and being awarded numerous prizes. She also joined the Fibre Artists Network where she became treasurer.
Despite ill health significantly changing her life during the last eight years, Dorothy remained connected and interested in these organisations. She adapted to the restrictions caused by her illness by taking up new interests - learning the ukulele, joining the Qi Gong group, and teaching a U3A Mahjong class.
To help others living with neuroendocrine tumours (NETS), Dorothy started a local support group of the Unicorn Foundation (an organisation dedicated to NETS support) and arranged for medical specialists to talk to the group.
Dorothy was given a Local Achievement Award at the inaugural NSW seniors Festival in 2016.
Dorothy will be greatly missed by her family, her many friends in the Nambucca Valley and elsewhere, and the wider NETS community for whom she has been an inspiration.
